CDS camera scheme to ‘tackle speeding’
Burnham-On-Sea improves road safety with CDS.
The seafront at Burnham-On-Sea is now a safer place for holidaymakers and residents alike, following CDS System’s installation of new hi-tech road safety cameras.
The Somerset town has had issues with speeding drivers and stolen vehicles, so the CCTV systems installed by CDS are designed to not only allow the police to monitor dangerous drivers but also have built-in automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems to identify stolen vehicles.
“The cameras will help us tackle the historic problem of speeding along the Esplanade,” explained Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham Police, “and help us monitor any incidents before they happen.
“People should feel safer in that part of town with the cameras in place,” he added.
The £20k+ road safety project has been jointly funded by Burnham Holiday Village, the local Town Council and the Somerset Crime and Disorder Partnership.
